Painting on the DRT 2020 Porsche 356

I was asked by the organizers of DRT (Das Renn Treffen) Miami to paint upon this beautiful 1965 Porsche 356, I quickly jumped at the chance. In case you don’t know, DRT is South Florida’s premier multi-day Porsche event taking place over several venues with many different activities. 2020 marked the sixth year of the event and it was better than ever. Thursday and Friday were track days held at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Saturday was an amazing cars and coffee held at The Collection car dealership and Sunday was the main event held in downtown Coral Gables. I set up my art booth on Sunday and met people from all over the United States and beyond. I also created a shirt / sticker / poster design that was also used at the DRT merch stand.

I spent several weeks on the 356 project, designing the layout and then applying the One Shot enamel paint on the car. The idea was to get an old-school Porsche race car look, designed specifically for DRT. The organizer and owner of the car, Al and I went over a few details and I was set loose to get creative. One can probably see a few nods to past cars that ran in the La Carrera Panamericana race in the 50’s as that was my main inspiration. In the end, I was very pleased on how it turned out. The car was front and center all weekend and I was happy to be a part of “South Florida’s Greatest Porsche Event”. See you there in 2021.
